The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.
That’s what this newsletter delivers.
I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.
Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.
Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.
We could actually do it this year, y’all!!!! And, at this point of the year, I am not usually this optimistic. We have a way of “bottling” things up in the end, as North London would say. North London will be red. The question is will we be Premier League Champions for the 2025-2026 season? Well, we have 7 games left of the season. We need to get 16 points from the last 7 games, and we have to play City ugh.
We still, in addition to playing City, will have to play Bournemouth, Newcastle, Fulham, West Ham, Burnley, and last but not least, Crystal Palace. The more I look at the final 7 games the more nervous I become. It is not the worst run in, but there most certainly be some tricky games.
For those of you who don’t follow world football, Arsenal F.C. player in the top football league in England, and quite possibly, the world. There is some debate about that, but I don’t get into that mess. The Gunners (Arsenal) famously have a rival game (derby - pronounced darby) against Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham is not doing well this year and it is a celebratory atmosphere for most Gunners. COYG!!!!
Arsenal is also vying for the title of Champions League Champion. This competition brings all the European leagues together for a battle royal (not really, but they play each other.) It is usually in a two-game format. One home, one away. Games keep whittling teams off until one is left. Of course, the Gunners are in the competition, and are even one of the teams projected to win the whole damn thing!!!!!! Wouldn’t that be amazing? Arsenal have never won the Champions League, as far as I know. I am going to check. Hold on. Nope, just as I thought. They were runners-up in 2006, but the men have never won the Champions League. I mention “men" because the Arsenal women won the Champions League last year!!!! Brava!!!!! COYG!!!

So, the men are in the running to win this year’s tourney. They have not lost a game yet. They did tie their last game, but to be fair, the team they tied won the Champion’s League a couple of seasons ago. We do have to get it done on the next game. We are out of round robin play. It is now win or go home. Just like in the Premier league, we cannot afford to make any mistakes or have any slip-ups.
Our keeper, David Raya, has kept at least fifteen clean sheets. A clean sheet simply means no goals scored. Fifteen is an impressive number, given the talent in the league. He surely is one of the best in the league, if not the world at this point in time.
There is yet another trophy to vie for this year. It is called the FA Cup and it is open to all teams in all of the English leagues. There are tiers, and each tier can play, often making for some exciting drama. When a teeny tiny club takes on one of the giants, and they win—well, those are magical nights. Special. Nights to remember.
Arsenal is still in the competition, and we are in the quarter-finals. We are playing a team that, theoretically, we should beat. But this being a cup tie, you never know. And that is where the suspense comes in. Memories are made and are passed down from generation to generation.
Certainly something special for Arsenal is a 16 year old player named Max Dowman. Max, during last game scored a stunning goal, and in doing so, became the youngest player to ever score in a Premier League game. Peep below.
All I have to say is that with Arsenal battling on multiple fronts, we better have some damn silverware to show for it at the end of the season.
