I pull either one or three oracle cards daily. Sometimes more, but never less than one. I like to get a general outlook for the day. Today, we will concentrate on one card pulls. I am using the African Goddess Rising Oracle deck by Abiola Abrams. The cards are beautiful representations of goddesses, Orisha, and various deities from Africa and the wider diaspora. There are 44 cards in this deck, each with a name of the deity on the card, plus illustration, and a word at the bottom, which represents the basic energy of the card. So, let’s get into it, shall we??
Today, I pulled card number 32. I break down the number until it cannot be broken again. So 32 = 3 + 2 = 5. Five in numerology represents a change, whether in direction of thought or action. It is also the number of the Orisha Osun. The name on the card is Mama Djombo. The word on the bottom of the card is SHINE, which is appropriate as Mama Djombo is the goddess of shine from Guinea Bissau. Her name was bastardized by colonizers and turned into the words “mumbo jumbo” which means gibberish. So, that, like just about everything else that colonizers touch, was turned around and made to mean something completely different.
Mama Djombo belongs to the temple of griots (storytellers who kept tradition and history alive through oratory means.) The card shows a woman made of trees, with lush greenery. She has horns and has what seems to be fire, or some type of light coming from her hands.
The word shine, as I take it to mean, is that it is time for me to stop hiding. Stop being a shrinking violet, and to allow my beauty and brilliance to shine through. I believe I am capable of great things (how’s that for an ego trip lol)! What this cards shows is that I need to have the courage to shine, and to shine brightly! No more shrinking, and keeping myself to the shadows of life. It is time to bloom, to be watered by the sun, activating my soul, and my inner (and outer beauty.) It is fear that has kept me to the shadows, but I am breaking free. I have, and will, continue to put the work in, and I will reap the rewards. I count on this, because I expect miracles. And I firmly believe that I have a splash of greatness about me, as Richard Gilmore would say(maybe more. That is to be seen.) This card is screaming to be me, naturally. There will bee people who hate my shine, and will talk badly of me, but that is jealousy. I will continue to Shine, despite the naysayers. The Goddess Declaration for this card is “I am ready to be seen and heard” and, yes, I am screaming inside, and beginning to let this out to the world!! Okay, that is the wrap up of this card. Number 32. Mama Djombo. Whenever you hear “mumbo jumbo”, I hope you will say fvcc you colonizers, and remember what is really true. The Goddess Mama Djombo.
